Software Coolies, Hear Me!

Software Coolies of India!

That's what most of you are. Just software coolies.

You carry head-loads for different clients; they come for your services at various times of the day and night. What do you get out of it? A payment on completion - for your labor. Even the software companies don't make much money out of this! They're just like a coolie union. Pressed on one side by more competitors, and on the other by 'cheaper customers'.

Stop Cribbing! Get off your hind-sides!

The only way to create wealth is to make something that someone wants. Start your own company, don't blindly do offshore services. Do that for survival if necessary. Create products. For any market which you know, or which you have the skills to target.

But who am I saying this to? You folks just want your cushy 'government jobs'. Regular pay. PF. No risks.

Just remember, you are a software coolie - no risk, no reward.

i wish u had elaborated further... this is nowhere close to the thought of the software engineer on shitizen ... u feel it could have done with more depth and content... ?!? guess its just a POV with no substantiation..

i am not denying your point, in fact i agree to it... i also see a bright spark in that suggestion of yours...
"Start your own company, don't blindly do offshore services. Do that for survival if necessary. Create products. For any market which you know, or which you have the skills to target." ...

would be great to know why u feel this, how can this be achieved, what are the hurdles if any and the solutions... and what makes u think its not already happening...

cheers

You're right, I didn't go in any depth. It is a PoV - and I don't know how I can provide substantiation.

My focus was more on the "Get out and do what you want". The "Software Coolies" is the attention grabber and presumably eye-opener.

Also, actually, I left a lot unsaid - this is a branch of a conversation we're having in our office.

I agree that a post on the product creation and value of the same would be good. Let me give that a shot.

Thanks for the prod :o). I needed that.

hi gbr,

saw your post on jb's blog.

we recently started a software company and we believe in your philosophy.

we are doing offshore services but that is mainly for survival. what we would ultimately like is what you describe.

if you are interested, we could discuss further. my gmail id is joginder.tanikella@gtalk.com. add me sometime and we could talk. :-)
